For Build Taupo owners Jon, Amy and their two boys, they consider themselves active relaxers. Every weekend they are out and about enjoying the Taupo region, from mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding and fishing. They are not often at home, so when considering their own house design, many aspects have fallen under the ‘easy-care’ lifestyle, to ensure they have time to be enjoying the outdoors.
When considering your own lifestyle, think about how you feel when you’re at home.
Do you enjoy spending time perfecting the gardens, or would you rather have a low-maintenance outdoor space with less lawn and more decking and paving?
How do you utilise your living room? Do you enjoy laxing out on the couch, feet up with a book? Or do you prep the lounge every Saturday, ready to entertain friends and family?
Do you enjoy having indoor-outdoor flow, or do you prefer to keep nature at bay?
How does a warm fireplace make you feel? Or are the quiet, low-maintenance features of a heat pump more preferable?
The kitchen is considered the most important room of all when designing your home! How much time do you spend behind the counter?
Are you a master chef, keen baker or takeaway queen? Do you get the kids to set the table each night, or lax out on the couch in front of the TV with your partner?
Would you prefer to eat at your outdoor table setting as many nights as possible (possibly keen to brave the cold through winter too)? There is so much to think about when considering how you utilise your home!
